Our Philosophy
➤ We believe that all children will grow socially, emotionally, physically and intellectually when provided with a safe, nurturing and stimulating play-based environment.
➤ We feel it is very important for each child to develop a healthy self-concept and respect for themselves and others.
➤ Children of all abilities are welcomed, the learning environment is arranged in such a way as to be inclusive, and our skilled childcare providers embrace the centre’s philosophy and goals.
➤ We work in partnership with families and encourage them to be involved in our Centre, ensuring open and positive communication is maintained.
➤ Our Centre is also an extension of the community, and we strive to incorporate school, individuals and businesses in our learning process.
Our Programs
We believe that all children should be provided with an experience that encourages their emotional, social, physical and intellectual development. We are inclusive and welcoming of all children and embrace their uniqueness and individuality.
We are committed to a program that gives a balance of sensory, language, and creative activities. Children learn most effectively through play and we provide opportunities for playing with adults, peers and on their own. Children learn at their own rate, and in order to learn, they must feel confident. At our Centre, we build meaningful and respectful consistent relationships with the children, and we foster the growth of relationships with their peers.

Infant
Our infant room is centred around play, nurturing relationships, and responsive caregiving, helping little ones develop cognitive, physical, social, emotional, and creative skills throughout their day. We work closely with families to create a comfortable transition and keep you connected with daily updates about your child’s meals, sleep, diapering, and experiences.
Preschool
Our preschool program is centred around play-based, emergent learning, giving children the time, space, and materials to explore their interests, creativity, and curiosity. Through meaningful play, caring relationships, outdoor adventures, and community experiences, children build confidence, problem-solving skills, and positive relationships with others.
School Age
Our school age program offers a welcoming space where children can unwind, connect with friends, and explore their own interests through games, creative activities, experiments, books, and child-directed learning. During the summer, days are filled with fun programming, outdoor adventures, special activities, and plenty of opportunities to play and explore.
Program Goals
The goals of all of our programs at MELC are - A small number of adults having a consistent relationship with the children - Responsive caregivers who understand that children are individuals who have the rights to love, respect, and quality care - Frequent, warm contact with other children and adults - Periods of individual attention whenever possible - Protective, preventative and prompt physical care - Adequate rest and nutritious snacks and meals - Modelling, teaching and promoting life skills and healthy lifestyles - Consistency, regularity and order in routines - Setting developmentally appropriate limits and expectations - Modelling and coaching appropriate problem-solving skills - The freedom to express feelings - Providing well equipped programs with the flexibility to meet diverse needs -Providing regular observations and assessments of children’s development - Promoting and celebrating diversity - Allowing for natural play activities in which opportunities for talking, explaining, organizing, classifying and interpreting are available
